Orlando

A labor of love that lasted 28 years sits at the center of one of Miami's most beloved tourist attractions. An everlasting mystery to those who explore it, this attraction combines human emotion with fantastic feats of physical determination. So what is this wonderful landmark? Known simply as the Coral Castle, this landmark attraction is, quite literally, a palace made of stone. Using nothing but his bare hands, Ed Leedskalnin was able to build a beautiful fortress, some say, to his long lost love. Hundreds of rumors surround Ed and his magical stone park, so why not stop by and see it for yourself? Did Ed's love give him supernatural strength? Did Ed discover the sciences the ancients used to build the pyramids? While the answer is unknown one thing is certain - Ed's Coral Castle is destine to remain a major Miami tourist attraction for generations to come.

The man behind the castle: Ed Leedskalnin

No one really knows why Ed Leedskalnin decided to build his Coral Castle. Stories continue to persist though, most of which revolve around Ed and his long lost love, Agnes Scuffs. When Ed was 26 he was engaged to marry Agnes, a beautiful girl 10 years his junior. Legend has it that Agnes cancelled the wedding just one day before the ceremony, leaving Ed heartbroken. Most Miami Van Rental and 15 Passenger Car Rental clients believe this is what drove Ed to build his beautiful castle. What makes Ed's work of art so remarkable is the fact that he was just over 5 feet tall and weighed only 100 pounds during the building process. The coral that Ed worked with was often 4,000 feet thick and extremely heavy. It's easy to credit Ed's amazing architectural feat to his family background (he came fro ma family of Latvian stone masons), but how is it that this tiny man sculpted over 1,100 tons of stone hard coral? If anyone ever questioned Ed about his building process he would reply that he understood the laws of weight and leverage extremely well. Ed even published a number of pamphlets during his lifetime discussing physics and biology. Engineers and scientists to this day are still baffled by Ed's creation, but don't take our word for it. Customers of The Orlando 15 Passenger Van Rental Company Miami Van Rental and 15 Passenger Car Rental are encouraged to stop by and see the Castle for themselves.

The things we'll do for Love

Ed Leedskalnin's Coral Castle is listed on the national Register of Historic Places. It is truly an amazing place to visit. Ed's Coral Castle has generated quite a media buzz of the years as well, earning a place on television shows like "Ripley's Believe It Or Not", "That's Incredible" and "In Search Of". Miami Van Rental and 15 Passenger Car Rental customers may even recognize the Coral Castle as the inspiration behind Billy Idol's classic song Sweet Sixteen. The majority of Ed's life was dedicated to this monument of love, but tragically, Ed's true love never took the time to visit the Castle before her death. Ed Leedskalnin died in December of 1951 a bachelor. Customers of The Orlando 15 Passenger Van Rental Company Miami Van Rental and 15 Passenger Car Rental are invited to visit his gravestone inside Miami Memorial Park Cemetery.
